Colin Healy departs role as Cork City first-team boss
Cork City have confirmed that Colin Healy has stepped down as their first-team boss.
Healy’s side have struggled for points this season and currently lie 9th in the Premier Division table with 9 points on the board from 13 games played.
The Rebels have lost their last four games to fall into the relegation play-off spot.
This was after a promising run of results against Dundalk, Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers.
But Monday’s 5-0 loss away to Bohemians triggered an outburst against the standards of refereeing from the City boss in a rare instance of him losing his cool.
It is believed that the arrival of Liam Buckley as Sporting Director – who was appointed on Wednesday afternoon – is unconnected to his decision to step down.
Former player Healy was appointed as manager back in October 2020 as the club fell through the top-flight relegation trapdoor.
He was unable to get them promoted straight away but came back in style last season as First Division champions.
The club are set to face St Patrick’s Athletic at home on Friday night who also saw their manager Tim Clancy depart during the week.
Former assistant boss Jon Daly has been appointed as the Athletic's boss on an interim basis in the wake of Clancy's exit.
