Cillian Heaney departs Sligo Rovers
Sligo Rovers have confirmed the departure of striker Cillian Heaney less than a year after he signed a professional contract with the club.
Heaney, 21, rose through the ranks at the Showgrounds before making his mark on the Bit O’ Red’s first-team squad last year under Liam Buckley and John Russell.
The promising forward made his senior League of Ireland bow in 2021 – and made 13 further appearances in the top-flight for the club until the end of the 2022 campaign.
But rather than kick on this season the Mayo native has struggled for game time and has opted to depart the club he joined originally as an under-15 player.
“Sligo Rovers can confirm that Cillian Heaney has left the club by mutual consent to pursue other options,” the club said.
“Cillian came through the club's Academy and signed a professional contract last summer.
“We wish Cillian the best of luck in the future.”
