League Preview: Athlone Town v Wexford
ATHLONE TOWN
Athlone Town will be aiming to make a further push up the table under new boss Gordon Brett, as they host Wexford FC at the Athlone Town Stadium on Friday (kick-off is at 7:45pm).
The Town are just two points ahead of their opponents in the table and come fresh off an impressive fightback against Waterford at the RSC last week.
After initially trailing 4-0, they clawed it back to 4-3 and despite not coming away with any points, they did well to threaten Waterford throughout the second-half.
Like Wexford, it’s been an up-and-down season so far, with just two wins from the last five games as they occupy fifth spot in the table.
Athlone have not yet issued team news for Friday’s game.
WEXFORD
Wexford will be pleased that their injury list is starting to reduce, after Conor Levingston made a substitute appearance in last week’s defeat to Finn Harps.
Brandon McCann was on the bench for that game after almost a month out of action, with Evan Farrell set to return in just a couple of weeks.
The South East side will be hopeful that Aaron Dobbs can continue his fine run of form up front, after scoring three goals in his last five games.
James Keddy had changed the formation in the previous two games, going for a 4-2-3-1 with Dobbs alone in the attack and defender Ethan Boyle playing higher up the pitch.
Despite many chances to score in Ferrycarrig last week, it was Finn Harps who came away with the three points after an own goal gifted them a 1-0 victory.
They last met Athlone in March, coming out as 3-0 winners in Ferrycarrig; Dobbs with the initial goal followed by a brace from Robinson – and Wexford will be hoping for a similar performance in Lissywollen on Friday.
