FAI reject Dundalk's appeal to overturn Robbie Benson's red card
The FAI have confirmed that they have rejected an appeal from Dundalk to overturn Robbie Benson’s red card on Friday night.
The former UCD and St Patrick’s Athletic midfielder was dismissed in the Lilywhites heavy 4-0 loss to Shamrock Rovers.
But following an appeal by Dundalk to overturn the decision, the FAI have rejected it. He will now serve a two-game ban.
“An independent Appeal Committee of the FAI has rejected Dundalk’s appeal for wrongful dismissal following Robbie Benson’s red card for serious foul play in Dundalk’s Premier Division fixture versus Shamrock Rovers FC on 31 March 2023,” a statement read.
“In accordance with the FAI Disciplinary Regulations, Robbie Benson will serve a two-match suspension.”
The FAI have also confirmed that DLR Waves appeal to overturn Isobel Finnegan’s red card against Bohemians has also been unsuccessful.
Finnegan was dismissed at Dalymount Park following an apparent off the ball incident picked up by the officials.
“An independent Appeal Committee of the FAI has rejected DLR Waves’ appeal for wrongful dismissal following Isobel Finnegan’s red card for violent conduct in DRL Waves’ Women’s Premier Division fixture versus Bohemians on 29 March 2023,” a statement read.
“In accordance with the FAI Disciplinary Regulations, Isobel Finnegan will serve a three-match suspension.”
