LSC: St. Patrick's Athletic -v- Drogheda United
Extratime will bring you all the action from the game on Monday night
It’s a game Pete Mahon feels his St.Patrick’s Athletic side shouldn’t even have to play but play it they must and expectations from supporters of the Inchicore club will be high regardless of anticipated rotation to the starting XI.
Drogheda United will be St. Pat’s Leinster Senior Cup opponents and the Drogs will be only too eager to quickly erase the memories of last Friday’s 3-0 home defeat to UCD.
Unhappy that the game is being played at all, given that it impinges on his Setanta Sport’s Cup preparations, Mahon will be keen to further increase the pressure on Alan Mathew’s team.
“This game on Monday is a game we shouldn’t have to play because if my memory serves me right we tried on three different occasions to play Drogheda and each time they turned us down and then when we did get a date agreed they couldn’t field a team ... So I was looking for a walk-over.”
“That wouldn’t be very sporting of me so I decided we play the game. It’s obviously a game we could do without because we are playing Linfield on Saturday that will be the most important game for us.”
Before further elaborating: “I instructed our officers here to look for a walkover but the league through a Mr. Peter Doyle said ‘they had a meeting and our request was over-turned or ruled out of order’ so the people here asked me ‘will we just play the match?’. So I said ‘we’ll play it!’”.
In terms of changes to the team the only member of the starting line-up which Mahon could guarantee was former Cork City man Dan Connor.
Venue: Richmond Park, Inchicore
Paddypower.com odds: St.Pat’s 4/9, Drogheda 5/1, Draw 11/4.
Extratime.ie prediction: 2-1 to the hosts.
