League Preview: Athlone Town -v- Finn Harps

ATHLONE TOWN

Athlone Town take on First Division foes Finn Harps at the Athlone Town Stadium on Friday night (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

The Blue and Black of the Midlands began their 2023 campaign with an impressive win away to Longford Town at Bishopsgate.

Striker Frantz Pierrot netted twice while Jamar Campion-Hinds also scored for Dermot Lennon’s side at the Strokestown Road venue.

But Pierrot will be suspended for their home clash against Harps after he picked up a red card in the win against Longford.

FINN HARPS

After boss Dave Rogers was unable to secure an opening day win against Galway United, Finn Harps return to action on Friday night against Athlone Town.

Ryan Rainey netted for the Co. Donegal men but two goals from the Tribesmen saw Harps slip to defeat.

And ahead of their first away league game of the season they are looking for a response.

“After the disappointment of losing to Galway United last week, the lads have worked extremely hard in training this week and are looking forward to another tough game away to Athlone Town,” Rogers said. 

“We have a clean bill of health and everyone is available as we go into this game with total respect and admiration for our opponents who got off to a great start last week by beating Longford 3-1. 

“Our preparations and principles on how we want to approach the Athlone match are ready and we know that if we want to come away with three points then we will have to be at our best.

We will have to be switched on in all areas of the pitch, both in and out of possession.”
