FAI Intermediate Cup round up: Rockmount and Ringmahon Rangers progress

FAI Intermediate Cup champions Rockmount are into the semi-finals after coming from a goal down to beat Kilbarrack United 3-1 in Cork at the weekend.

The Munster Senior League side were trailing through a penalty from Deiric Hyland but this was quickly cancelled out with Jason Sexton’s close-range finish.

Former Cobh Ramblers player Nathan Broderick then scored twice in quick succession and that was enough to give Rockmount the win.

The north-siders are once again going into the final few months of the season chasing multiple trophies as they are still within a chance of lifting four domestic cups alongside their league title and the Intermediate Cup.

This team was assembled by Eddie Kenny, who took over in 2021 and he guided them to a treble consisting of the Munster Senior League Premier Division, FAI Intermediate Cup, and O’Connell Cup.

Ringmahon Rangers are also into the semi-finals after their 1-0 victory over Leinster Senior League side Willow Park on Saturday evening.

The Ringers, who are one of the most storied clubs in Cork with eight Munster Senior League titles on their honours list, are looking for their first ever senior national trophy as a club.

Ringmahon last reached the Intermediate Cup semi-finals in 2020 and they were narrowly beaten by Killester Donnycarney at home.

Their team is filled with experience as it contains former League of Ireland players Gearoid Morrissey, Cameron Harlson, Anthony McAlavey, and Eric Grimes.

Lucan United also booked their place in the semi-finals with Connor Clifford and Gary Seery scoring for them in a 2-1 win over Skerries Town.

They are looking to become the first team from the Leinster Senior League to lift the famous trophy since Killester Donnycarney in 2020.

The only remaining quarter final still left to be played is Home Farm’s meeting with Cockhill Celtic at Whitehall.

Whoever wins that game will travel to Cork to take on Ringmahon Rangers in the semi-finals.

Lucan United will face Rockmount at home, with the semi-finals set to be played on the weekend ending March 19.
