St Pat's boss hails goalscorers
Pete Mahon was suitably impressed with what he had seen from his St.Patrick’s Athletic side following their 2-0 home win over Galway United on the opening night of the 2010 Airtricity League Premier Division.
“I think that with the exception of a free-kick and maybe a long range shot Gary Rogers had a relatively easy night.”
Adding: “A lot of people probably except a little bit too much, too early. We all know that it’s going to take us a while but the pleasing thing for me was that we’re trying to do the right thing. It doesn’t always come off and our final ball at times lets us down tonight but the players are trying to be positive.”
Saving special praise for his goal scorers Alex Williams and Ryan Guy: “I’m always pleased when we score goals; I’m not too particular who scores them as long as we score them, as long as we win. I did say last week that I think he’ll (Williams) score goals, he has a natural instinct that every goal scorer needs.”
“A team is made up of different components but I think every good team needs a goal scorer and we have Alex and we also have Ryan which is important for us and important for him to give him confidence; he played very well tonight.”
Mahon wasn’t going to go overboard so early in the season but summed up his feelings on the evening by concluding: “I’m just happy to win the match. Obviously it’s the first home game of the season, this time last year we were sitting here after a 3-0 defeat to the same opposition so there has to be a positive there tonight.”
