Ipswich Town's Matt Ward joins Derry City on loan

Derry City have announced the signing of Matt Ward on loan ahead of the Premier Division season.

Ward joins the Candystripes until midseason from English side Ipswich Town where he made his first team debut in the FA Cup last November.

"I didn't know much about the league, but the quality was very good & the atmosphere inside the ground was brilliant too,” Ward said, speaking to the club’s media team.

"The boys have already made me feel very welcome and the club clearly has big aspirations which is something I'm really happy to be a part of."

Ward picked up a medal on his debut for the club as he was part of the team that defeated Shamrock Rovers in the President’s Cup last Friday night.

Derry begin their campaign with a trip to Richmond Park to face St Patrick’s Athletic on Friday night (kick-off 7.45pm).
