Former St Patrick's Athletic defender Luke McNally joins Coventry City on loan
Coventry City have announced the signing of Luke McNally from Burnley on loan until the end of the season.
The 23-year-old joins the Sky Blues from the Clarets having joined them in the summer.
The Enfield native made the move to Turf Moor from Oxford United but struggled to make an impact on Vincent Kompany’s side, making just four appearances to date.
McNally rose to prominence last season in League One and made 35 appearances, scoring four goals at the Kassam Stadium having joined them from St Patrick’s Athletic in January 2021.
The central defender also took in a spell at Drogheda United where he scored six goals in 27 appearances as he impressed during a loan spell in the 2019/20 season.
After putting pen to paper on a temporary stay at the Coventry Building Society Arena, McNally was delighted to remain in the Championship and he is a player Mark Robins has had an eye on for a while.
“I’m really happy and I’m delighted to be here,” he told ccfc.co.uk. “I’m looking to get some minutes under my belt and getting out on the pitch and help the team.
“I want to get some minutes and help the team in the Championship and help the team move up the table.
“I was always aware there was interest from Coventry. Even when I was at Oxford in League One I knew they were keeping tabs on me.
“When I heard they were coming in for me in January, I was more than happy to come out here on loan.”
McNally is hoping to establish himself in the side and he is in contention for Cov’s game against relegation threatened Huddersfield Town on Saturday as they look to push up the table.
“You have to take it one game at a time. Every time you put the kit on you have to give your all and focus on that game and then worry about next week, next week.
“It might sound a bit cliché but that’s how you have to do it.
“I played in a back three a bit at Oxford and we switched to a back four as well, but I always felt comfortable in a back three.
“If you’re on the outside you get more opportunities to step in and link with other players on the pitch, but either way suits me.”
