Claire O’Riordan scores her first Celtic goals in Scottish Cup win
Claire O’Riordan was on the scoresheet twice as the Irish international defender contributed in both defence and attack as the Hoops defeated Falkirk 9-0 at the weekend.
O’Riordan, who joined Celtic from German side MSV Duisburg last summer, was keen to acknowledge the role of her team mates when speaking to her club’s media team after the game.
“As a footballer it is always nice to score goals but credit goes to my teammates for supporting me as well and you know putting the ball in the right areas for me as well,” said the 28-year-old player.
The Limerick native’s goals were the result of the pandemonium created in Falkirk’s penalty area every time Celtic had a corner kick and in fact she almost got a third.
“I think we have a big presence in our attack from set-pieces which we capitalise on quite well. So, it’s just about continuing to keep those standards and pushing.”
This was the cup holders Celtic’s opening game in the Women’s Scottish Cup and they now move on to play Boroughmuir Thistle on the weekend of Sunday 12 January
