Fleetwood Town sign David Harrington
Fleetwood’s manager Scott Brown has announced another new signing from the League of Ireland in this January transfer season.
The League One side are currently placed 13th in the table and on the back of an impressive 3-0 away win to Shrewsbury. They are just off the pace of the play-offs, albeit with games in hand on those above them. There is major expectation of the future of the club given the appointment of former Celtic captain Brown and anticipated arrivals.
Signing Harrington is a sign of this. The 22-year-old Cork City graduate has made over 30 appearances for the club since making his debut in 2021. He has kept 17 clean sheets in that spell and was named in the First Division team of the year as City won the league.
This form has also seen him represent Ireland at under-21 level. He was on the radar of many clubs across the water including Everton who had a deal in place before surgery stalled that. Currently side-lined with an injury, he will be expected to join with his new team-mates soon.
The keeper gave his thoughts on the move. “I am delighted to be here. This move has been on the cards for the last few weeks, but I am really happy to be here. I am coming into the unknown but having the belief from the manager and others around you, it gives you a confidence boost, and I am just looking forward to the future. I had a good chat with the goalkeeping coach, and I am ready to work hard, fight for my place and play as many games as I can."
He joins fellow LOI recruit Phoenix Patterson. The club are currently preparing for an FA Cup third round with Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.
