While Argentina won the World Cup last weekend, their penalty shootout victory over France wasn’t enough to go top of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings as Brazil remain the top ranked men's side.

If Lionel Messi’s team had won the final against France in 90 minutes or extra-time, they would have gone top spot in the rankings to go with the World Cup trophy Messi lifted at the end of the match.

However, their penalty shoot-out victory only counts as a draw and so beaten World Cup quarter-finalists Brazil remain number one ahead of second placed Argentina.

While France lost the final, Les Bleus are back in the top three as Belgium drop two spots to fourth having failed to get out of their group at Qatar 2022. England remain fifth.

On the back of their respective runs to the World Cup semi-finals, Croatia jump five spots to 7th and Morocco move up 11 positions to one spot outside of the top 10.

Ireland sit in 47th position, one place above World Cup hosts Qatar.
