Athlone Town re-sign trio after remarkable WNL season

Athlone Town’s senior WNL manager Tommy Hewitt has announced his first three re-signings ahead of the 2023 campaign.

Athlone had a hugely successful season in 2022, finishing second in the League table and reaching the FAI Women’s Cup final at Tallaght Stadium two weeks ago where they missed out on lifting the trophy after a 2-0 defeat to double-winning Shelbourne.

Three of the players that were central to the club’s positive performances have committed to the club for 2023 with defensive midfielder Laurie Ryan, and wingers Gillian Keenan and Roisin Molloy all signing up.

Hewitt has already expressed his desire to sign as many of last season’s squad as possible and there are likely to be further announcements in the coming days.
