Flight fiasco fixture fixed for October
The FAI have confirmed that the SSE Airtricity Premier Division fixture between Shelbourne FC and St Patrick’s Athletic will now be played at Tolka Park on Monday, 3rd October at 7:45pm.
The match had been postponed due to the Saints difficulties in getting home from Sofia following their Europa Conference League game against CSKA Sofia. Issues with their charter resulted in the Inchicore outfit having to spend a number of days waiting for alternative transport home.
They had originally requested a postponement but it was declined before circumstances forced the game to be not played. Shelbourne were understood to be displeased at the cancellation of the fixture and in a statement the FAI acknowledged the Reds annoyance.
“The FAI acknowledges the frustrations of supporters and concerns expressed by Shelbourne FC around the failure to play this fixture as planned on 7th August and regrets the inconvenience caused to all those affected due to circumstances beyond the FAI’s control,” the statement said.
“Consequently, the FAI will now review the policy around fixtures for all clubs involved in UEFA club competitions ahead of the 2023 League of Ireland season.”
Due to the results in the FAI Cup Quarter-Finals, three league games have been rescheduled.
