Twigg warns of Sporting threat
Shamrock Rovers striker Gary Twigg reckons the Premier Division title race will include Sporting Fingal as well as champions Bohemians.
The reigning PFAI Player of the Year is hoping to shake off a calf injury in order to be ready for the new season, which he expects to be extremely competitive.
While Rovers ran Bohs closed for the league crown last term, it could be even tougher to close that gap this season as newly-promoted Sporting have been tipped to emerge as a challenger.
Twigg watched Liam Buckley's side knock The Hoops out of the FAI Ford Cup en route to winning the competition and he was impressed by them, but thinks they have added some excellent players to their squad since then and should be viewed as a real threat.
"Everybody knows what to expect from them. They had a really good squad last year in the First Division and they have added real quality," said Twigg.
"I can’t see them being too far away. I think they will be the ones who are challenging with us and Bohemians for the title.
"They have added a lot of quality to the team we played last year when they knocked us out of the Cup. So it will be an exciting league and Fingal will be there or thereabouts."
