Murray appointed new Hoops captain
Dan Murray will wear the captain's armband for Shamrock Rovers this season following his move from Cork City in the off-season.
The 27-year-old proved to be a popular player during his time on Leeside and will now be aiming to replicate the consistency and success that he achieved with his former club in Tallaght.
Even though he has competition for a place at centre-back with Aidan Price and Craig Sives, the experienced defender has been given the nod by manager Michael O'Neill to act as his on-field leader.
Murray succeeds Shane Robinson, who left The Hoops following the end of the 2009 season, and O'Neill thinks he is the perfect man to take on the role.
"Dan will be captain. He's been captain since a young age and a long time at Cork," confirmed O'Neill.
"I dont think anyone would dispute the type of character Dan is given what he went through down there last season. He kept his dignity on and off the field.
"It was a big plus for us to get him here. He's a top player in this league and he has all the attributes you look for in a captain."
