Sligo Rovers have confirmed Portuguese defender Mauro Almeida has re-signed for the club on a one year deal ahead of the coming 2010 season.

The ex-Porto player terminated his contract with the club in the second part of last season, but is now set to make an unexpected return to The Showgrounds.

Almeida, 28, who was hugely popularly amongst Sligo supporters, was deprived of playing time last season due to injury and consequently left the club.

The defender, who has had spells with English clubs Accrington Stanley and Swindon Town, will be a welcome name on the squad list when Paul Cook’s men kick-off their league campaign at home to Shamrock Rovers on March 5th.

One player who won't be returning to the club is Romauld Boco as the Benin international has agreed a deal to join Coca-Cola League Two side Burton Albion.
