Flood signs on with Boynesiders
John Flood has ended his search for a new club after agreeing terms on a contract with Drogheda United.
The 26-year-old striker had been training with Dundalk and even played against Drogheda in the recent Jim Malone Cup victory, where his netted a brace.
Flood had been on the look-out for a new employer after his contract with Bray Wanderers ran out at the end of last season. He was part of the PFAI training camp before linking up with Dundalk for a trial period.
However, he is delighted to have signed on with Drogheda and has revealed that manager Alan Mathews played a big part in convincing him to pitch up at United Park.
“I received a phone call the next day from Alan [Mathews] to ask if I had signed for Dundalk and after talking to him for a while I agreed to sign for Drogheda," said Flood.
“I explained that I had no commitments to Dundalk, he seems like a great chap and made it very easy for me to sign.
“I am really looking forward to the new season, I can’t wait to start the season, it should be good.
“I had a few offers from First Division clubs but I want to play in the Premier Division and I’m going to do my best with Drogheda."
