Melligan turns up at Oriel Park

John Melligan is the latest player to join Dundalk as Ian Foster continues to add the finishing touches to his squad for 2010.

The Dubliner, who began his professional career with Wolverhampton Wanderers, has spent a decade in England, where he has lined out for six different clubs.

Now he has decided to take up a new challenge by agreeing terms on a one-year deal with The Lilywhites and becomes the 13th player to be recruited by Foster.

Melligan will provide some good competition for places as he can play either in midfield or up front and showed how dangerous he can be in front of goal when scoring on his debut in the pre-season friendly with Derry City.

The 28-year-old also brings some much-needed experience to the Dundalk dressing-room. Foster will be hoping that he can have the same sort of impact that he had at Kidderminister Harriers in 2002 when he scored 10 goals in 29 games.

He went on to play regularly for Cheltenham Town and Leyton Orient, although his focus will now be fixed on helping his new club get off to a good start in the Premier Division.
