Foster swoops to add Gers youngster
Ian Foster has continued to strengthen his squad by recruiting midfielder Tom Miller after he impressed on trial with the club.
The 19-year-old has agreed terms on a one-year contract after featuring in each of the club’s pre-season games to date, including the Jim Malone Cup victory over Drogheda United.
Having started his footballing education with Norwich City, Miller moved on to Rangers at the age of 16 and spent last two seasons with the Scottish club. However, injury restricted his playing time in Glasgow, so he is itching to get back playing first-team football on a regular basis.
"I’m looking forward to this season, I think that we can do well," Tom told Dundalk's official website.
"I was out for a year with my knee, and then I broke my foot in my first game back. But I just recently started getting back into the swing of things again.
"I was playing reserve football, but there’s no competitive reserve league in Scotland, so I was just playing in friendlies. I’m not really going to move on and progress doing that - that’s why I wanted to get playing competitive football again.
"I was asked to come over here, so I came over for a week for Ian [Foster] to have a look at me and for me to have a look at the club. I had three games and I did alright, so he approached the club and we agreed a deal to come here."
Foster was quick to express his excitement at landing the talented midfielder, who he reckons will be a big hit for The Lilywhites this season.
"Hee’s a player with a lot of potential, a good young player. He has a great attitude, he has a fantastic physique and he’s a good ball player," said Foster.
"He wants to get on the ball, he plays in the right manner, he’s a positive footballer and I’m looking forward to working with him."
Meanwhile, former Bray Wanderers striker John Flood and ex-Sporting Fingal midfielder Robert Bayly could be next to win contracts at the club after both featured in that Jim Malone Cup win.
