Michelle O’Neill set for Women’s Champions League quarter-final officiating duty
Irish match official Michelle O’Neill will an assistant referee in Wednesday’s Women’s Champions League quarter-final fixture in the Juventus Stadium in Turin.
The Wexford native will be running the line in Italy for the first leg of the quarter-final between Juventus and Lyon.
She will be assisting Welsh referee Cheryl Foster when Juve host the seven time record winning European champions Olympique Lyonnais Féminin.
The experienced Irish match official has worked at two Women’s World Cups, the Tokyo Olympics and ran the line in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Final.
She was also part of an all-women’s refereeing team, led by France’s Stephanie Frappart, who took charge of the 2019 UEFA Super Cup when Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side defeated Chelsea on penalties in Istanbul.
Lyon defeated Juve in the last 16 in the 2020/21 Champions League 6-2 on aggregate but were eliminated in last season’s quarter-final by PSG. Prior to 2021, Lyon had won five Champions Leagues in a row.
This is the first season that Juventus have made the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Teams of Irish officials are also in charge of three senior men's international friendlies over the next week:
