Connor tips Candystripes for promotion
Sean Connor believes Derry City have all of the right ingredients to clinch promotion from the First Division this season.
The Galway United boss brought his team up to the Brandywell last week for a pre-season friendly and was stunned at how strong The Candystripes were.
Despite the many changes that have taken place at the club over the past few months, they still have a strong core with manager Stephen Kenny building a competitive squad that features many of last year's first-team.
Connor reckons they have a good balance to their roster and that should see them emerge as a real force to be reckoned with in the First Division.
"I think Stephen has done well to keep players such as Gerard Doherty, Kevin Deery, Barry Molloy and Mark Farren, they are key players," Connor told the Derry Journal.
"He's brought in Emmett Friars who I believe is a good defender and with Mark McChrystal returning to the club, he certainly has a team that will compete.
"I also noticed quite a few new faces, some of which impressed me with their pace and passing, so I think Derry face good times in the future even if it is in the First Division. The Brandywell is always a very difficult venue to get results for any team and I feel that will continue to be the case.
"If they can pick up enough points on the road, then I can see Derry back in the Premier Division next season, after all that's where the club belongs."
