Shelbourne sign under-17 Republic of Ireland midfielder Aoife Kelly
Shelbourne have announced the signing of Aoife Kelly from St Patrick’s Carlow.
Kelly arrives at Tolka Park for her first season in the Women’s National League.
The midfielder has represented the Republic of Ireland at under-16 and under-17 level. She won seven under-17 caps last year and was featured in James Scott’s side who beat on Portugal in September.
A month later, Kelly featured in all three victories against Norway, Hungary, and Bulgaria in the under-17 European Championship qualifiers. Ireland finished 2021 as the best-ranked team in Europe.
Shelbourne manager Noel King was delighted to sign the highly rated 15-year-old, as he told the club’s website.
“We’re delighted that Aoife has chosen to sign with us,” King said.
“She is an exciting talent and we’re looking forward to having her in the squad which will be a great year for her development.”
Shelbourne begin their league campaign at home against Dublin rivals Bohemians on Saturday March 5th.
