New financial concerns for Drogheda

Drogheda United have revealed that they are in close discussions with the FAI with regard to their proposed budget for the 2010 season.
The Boynesiders defied the odds last year by retaining their Premier Division status due largely to the managerial skills of Alan Mathews, but their attempts to move forward have been halted by fresh financial concerns.
While all of the details are not yet clear, the club have confirmed that they are in close contact with the FAI as they try to balance their books ahead of the Licencing Committee awarding licences to clubs on February 15.
"Further to recent speculation in media circles, the board of Drogheda United FC is in budgetary discussions and hopes to have its 2010 budget finalised within the coming days," said club director Jim Agnew.
"We are speaking to the FAI and we plan to meet the deadlines they've given us in respect to the license application."
The squad was due to train on Friday night, but the session was canceled due to the fact the pitch was unplayable. This is in contrast to rumours that the players refused to train due to the financial difficulty at the club.
Agnew clarified the issue by stating: "I don't know about Friday is the honest answer. I do know they trained yesterday at Mosney because I spoke to the manager before and after training."
Drogheda have postponed their Leinster Senior Cup with St Patrick's Athletic, which was due to take place on Wednesday (February 10), as they put all of their focus on sorting out this new financial hiccup that could derail their campaign before it even starts.
