Drogheda United sign teenage duo from Lincoln City
Drogheda have announced the signings of Sam Long and Sean Roughan on loan from League One side Lincoln City.
Long is a product of Lincoln’s youth academy and was included in their first team throughout last season. The 19-year-old goalkeeper made his senior debut last August in the EFL Trophy.
He went on to make five more appearances for the Imps, including his League One debut away to Plymouth Argyle last weekend. Long will compete with Drogheda’s David Odumosu, who is entering his third successive season with the Louth club.
18-year-old Roughan is a highly rated left-back, who can also play in central defence. He began his career at Dublin club Phoenix FC before Lincoln signed Roughan as a scholar in September 2019.
The left-back signed a professional contract with the club in July 2020 and has since made 11 appearances for the Imps. Roughan has also been named in the Republic of Ireland squad at under-21, under-19, and under-17 levels, and scored for Tom Mohan’s under-19 side against Bulgaria last November.
