Northern Ireland defender Jade Lindsay joins Hamilton Academical

Northern Ireland defender Jade Lindsay has signed for Scottish Women’s Premier League 2 side Hamilton Academical.

Lindsay who plays as a centre-back has been out of football after leaving Forfar Farmington who folded in the summer.

This isn’t her first spell with Accies, as after two seasons at Celtic Women Lindsay made the move to the club in 2016 where she enjoyed an SWPL2 title win in her first season.

During that spell she won two SWPL2 titles in three years with the club before moving on.

The experienced defender made her Northern Ireland debut in November 2015 against Switzerland in the European Qualifiers.

Lindsay was also in the squad that travelled to take on Euro 2017 champions the Netherlands in a World Cup qualifier in 2018.

She said that remains one of her favourite football memories. “In April 2018, Northern Ireland were competing in the World Cup Qualifiers again the European champions Netherlands in Eindhoven and I was picked for the squad,” said Lindsay.

“I will never forget that experience, the build up to the game with the Netherlands selling a total of 30,000 tickets. Arriving at the PSV stadium, with people queuing outside for your autographs, warming up with adrenaline rushing through your body, its not every day you play in front of 30,000 fans. I will always be grateful for that opportunity.”

Overall she has been capped 15 times for the national team.

Hamilton are currently bottom of the SWPL1 division and four points behind Hearts who are one place above them in 11th.

Hamilton were narrowly beaten 1-0 last weekend by Glasgow City with another Northern Ireland international Kerry Beattie scoring on her debut for City.

Lindsay who will wear number 11 at the club could be in line to make her debut once more for the club this Sunday when they host Motherwell at New Douglas Park with a 2pm kick off.
