Portadown sign defender Joe Gorman from Galway United
Irish league side Portadown have announced the signing of Joe Gorman from Galway United.
The signing of the centre-back is a boost to Matthew Tipton’s side, who have been struggling for form this season.
The 27-year-old played 11 times for Galway United last season, and has had previous spells at Longford Town, Cliftonville and Scottish third tier side Clyde FC.
Portadown are currently second from bottom of the Danske Bank Premiership, with 12 points from 21 games. Their most recent outing was last weekends’ 2-0 Irish Cup victory against Limavady United. Before that they lost two on the bounce against Ballymena and Glenavon.
Speaking following their Irish Cup win last weekend, Tipton gave an insight into the comings and goings at Shamrock Park.
“Hopefully it’s the first win of many because it’s been a while since we won on a Saturday, Tipton said.
“Now we’ve got to build on it and try to get some momentum in the league campaign because we haven’t had that so far this season. We’ve had many near misses, but we haven’t done it.
“We’ve signed three players this week. Joe Gorman should be announced today, with another deal agreed but not yet fully signed off and I’m working on a striker as well. Whatever happens elsewhere I’ll still be bringing bodies in.”
