Eoin Doyle: 'I got a phone call from the owner (Garrett Kelleher), and everything moved really quickly'
Recruitment under new manager Tim Clancy at St. Pats continues as the Inchicore side have added some experience to the dressing room and firepower up top with the signing of veteran striker Eoin Doyle from League One side Bolton Wanderers.
The 33-year-old has signed for the Saints a long term contract with the club and he will wear the number 9 jersey.
Doyle has had an impressive career with the player racking up nearly 500 senior appearances and 163 goals. His goals have come across the League of Ireland, Scottish Professional Football League, where he played at Hibernian alongside current manager Tim Clancy, and across the leagues in England.
He spent the majority of his career with teams in the Championship, League One and League Two. His most prolific spell was at Swindon Town. The striker scored 25 goals in 28 appearances, including netting in eleven consecutive matches, the first player to do this in England since Jamie Vardy in 2015.
Doyle told his new club’s media that "I'm delighted, I'm buzzing to be finally home, and I'm happy to have joined such a big club. I've got a very good relationship with the manager (Tim Clancy), we go back a bit having played together, we speak quite frequently. I got a phone call from the owner (Garrett Kelleher), and everything moved really quickly, so I'm delighted to get it over the line."
Tim Clancy speaking about his new striker said that "It's a really exciting signing for us. If you look at Eoin's career, he has consistently scored goals at various levels. I'm delighted to get the signing over the line.
"I'd know Eoin very well from our time together at Hibs, we've kept in touch, and it came up in conversation, and when I learned there was interest from Eoin's end, I spoke to the Chairman, and I'm delighted he was able to get it done."
