Sligo Rovers forum takes place
A public forum about the future of Sligo Rovers Football Club took place at the Clarion Hotel, Sligo on Sunday evening.
This gave fans a chance to voice their opinions on the future of the football club and served as an suggestion box to the current management committee. The well attended event was chaired by current Rovers chairman Dermot Kelly and life-long fan Tommie Gorman, with first team manager Paul Cook speaking for a brief period.
The hot topic amongst most Sligo fans was the future of midfielder Chris Turner, who on Friday (January 29th) was announced as the latest signing to Michael O' Neill's squad at Shamrock Rovers. Understandably, neither manager nor chairman wanted to go into the details of the situation, but Kelly did tell the crowd present that all was being done to bring the saga to a fair end.
Cook continued by stating he did not want any player in his dressing room who was not 100 percent committed the club - a statement which was met with applause from the crowd.
Another player who was on the books of the Connacht-based side last year whose future is unclear is Romuald Boco, who planned on using this years African Nations Cup as a platform to secure a transfer back to England. Cook confirmed that Boco is on trial with Doncaster Rovers with a view to a permanent deal, but Sligo are still interested in his signature for the 2010 season.
The Liverpool native also stated that the club is looking out for more quality signings to add to a list of talented players who have just joined the club including Padraig Amond and Gary McCabe.
Dermot Kelly also pointed out the plans for a re-jigged structure within the club. These include the marketing of the club, the need for a general manager, a youth liason group, match night group, and a new website which be up and running shortly.
On sale at the forum, was a special match ticket which is available for the Setanta Sports Cup game against Cliftonville and the first home league game.
