Stephen Finn named as new Longford Town U19 Manager
Hot on the heels of the re-signings of Academy products Ben Lynch and Callum Warfield, Longford Town have made further announcements regarding their youth system with the appointment of Stephen Finn to the position of Under 19s manager.
The current member of the Waterford IT based Football Research Group is also a former assistant manager of the Republic of Ireland futsal team.
Finn is a UEFA A Licence holder and has most recently been involved in scouting for Tom Mohan’s Under 19 international squad, having also previously worked alongside both Paul Osam and Jim Crawford with Under 18 home-based selections.
As a manager himself, he has experience coaching with Leinster FA Youths and St Francis while he was the Shelbourne Under 17 Head Coach from 2016 until 2018, during which time the club produced players such as Ali Reghba and William Hondermarck.
Speaking with club media, ltfc.ie, he expressed his delight at the opportunity he has been given with the club, “I am very happy to have been appointed to this role with Longford Town FC. I know the club very well having come down to see the early days of Stephen Kenny’s time at the club and the fantastic work put in by so many people into turning the ground into the brilliant facility that it is today.
I’m really looking forward to working with the young players at the club and I’m determined to add to the great work done with them over the years by the likes of Denis O’Brien, James Dermody, Anthony Elding, Aisling Conway and others.
Producing players to compete for places in Gary Cronin’s first team squad is what it’s all about and I’m sure the young men in this club know that if they become relentless in their pursuit of excellence and improvement, then they can achieve a lot in the game. Making the step up from underage football to the senior level is the hardest hurdle so it’ll take hard work and perseverance.”
Craig Sexton: ‘Ultimately I am here to develop everyone at the football club wherever I can; structures, coach development and player development.’ https://t.co/vs4bb9suhQpic.twitter.com/RnXWRKPrlD
