The Candystripes sign Cameron Dummigan and Brandon Kavanagh
Ruaidhri Higgins had a busy day making two signings for his Derry City squad. Brandon Kavanagh has joined from Shamrock Rovers while Cameron Dummigan comes to Derry from Dundalk.
“Brandon is a player I’ve admired since he burst onto the scene at Shamrock Rovers a few years ago,” said Candystripes boss Higgins. “He is a very gifted footballer with huge potential. At only 21 years of age it will be exciting to see how he develops in the coming years at Derry City.”
Kavanagh spent this year on a season long loan at Bray Wanderers making 30 appearances in the First Division – scoring seven league goals and was joint top scorer with the Seagulls. Prior to the loan spell he made 16 appearances in the Premier Division for Stephen Bradley’s first team after making his senior debut for Rovers against Bray Wanderers in April 2018.
As a player under the age of 23, Derry City will pay compensation to Shamrock Rovers for Kavanagh who has signed a three year deal with the Candystripes.
In 2020, he was a crucial player with Rovers’ First Division side scoring nine goals. He was shortlisted for the PFAI Award for the First Division in 2020 and was named in the division’s team of the year in both of the last two seasons.
Meanwhile, Cameron Dummigan has signed a two-year deal with the Candystripes. The 25-year-old spent the last two seasons at Oriel Park. He made 29 league appearances in the Premier Division for Dundalk in 2021.
“I’m delighted to welcome a player of Cameron’s quality and versatility to the club,” said Higgins. “It is very rare that a player is equally effective in a number of positions, but that’s certainly what he brings us.
“He has a wealth of experience behind him and is still only 25 years old so I would like to think he’s joining the club with his best years ahead of him.”
