Drogheda United have announced the appointment of Kevin Doherty as the club’s new first team manager.

Doherty will step up from his assistant manager role at the club in place of Tim Clancy who has departed the club and joined St Patrick’s Athletic.

Former Longford Town manager Daire Doyle will assist Doherty.

“I’m delighted to become the manager of this fantastic football club,” Doherty said, speaking to the club’s media team.

“I’ve really enjoyed working with Tim over the last few years and I look forward to continuing to build upon the great work that we have done together.

“I’m also thrilled that Daire, an ex-Drog himself, is joining me to really push the club forward.”

This is Doherty’s first managerial appointment since taking over as manager of Shelbourne in 2016 where he stayed until May 2017.
