Athlone Town unveil Martin Russell as new manager
Athlone Town have announced that Martin Russell will take charge of their senior men’s team for the 2022 season after Paul Doolin’s departure earlier this month.
The Dubliner has previously managed Limerick and Bray Wanderers as well as UCD where he won a First Division title in 2009.
His time with Limerick saw him suffer relegation in 2015 before claiming the First Division title with the Super Blues the following year to return them to the Premier Division.
This appointment sees the manager return to the League of Ireland for the first time in three years.
"I am absolutely delighted to be joining Athlone Town AFC as its men's first team manager,” Russell said, speaking to the club’s media team.
"With the potential the club has, I am determined to make Athlone Town AFC as successful as possible in 2022," he added.
Russell is the third person to be listed as manager of Athlone Town in less than six months with Adrian Carberry departing the club in August and his replacement Paul Doolin stepping down this month.
