Sligo convince trio to pen new deals
Sligo Rovers have continued to shape their squad ahead of the 2010 campaign after recruiting three players from last year’s panel.
The midfield trio of Richie Ryan, Dean Marshall and Darren Meenan have all agreed fresh terms to stay put at The Showgrounds.
Ryan, who was once on the books with Sunderland, clocked up 23 starts last season, while Marshall netted twice in 13 appearances and Meenan featured 5 times.
They join Richard Brush, Alan Keane, Gavin Peers, Danny Ventre, Conor O’Grady, Eoin Doyle and Matthew Blinkhorn in opting to stick with The Bit O’Red for this year.
After finishing as runners-up in the FAI Ford Cup last term, Sligo will be eager to make a solid start to the new season once it kicks off in March, which explains why they have been quick to sort out the futures of so many players.
Along with the players who have re-signed for the coming season, manager Paul Cook has managed to secure the services of Iarfhlaith Davoren (Galway United), Chris Turner (Dundalk), Gary McCabe (Bray Wanderers) and Padraig Amond (Shamrock Rovers).
Cook is still on the lookout for potential new signings and is expected to strengthen in a number of positions before the transfer window closes.
