Shels bolster options with talented duo

Shelbourne manager Dermot Keely has added some youth to his squad with the capture of both Sean Byrne and Andy Haran.

The Reds are steadily putting together a strong squad that they hope will be good enough to win promotion from the First Division after narrowly missing out in the last two seasons.

Having already brought Steve Williams, Robbie Clarke and Paul Shiels in from Drogheda United and convincing Gareth Whelan, Eric Foley and Dinny Corcoran to join from Sporting Fingal, Keely has added some interesting additions.

Byrne, who was with Bohemians last year, has been added to that list after signing a one-year deal with the Dublin club. While he normally operates at left-back, the 20-year-old is able to fill a variety of different positions in defence and midfield.

The other new signing for Shels is Haran, who arrives on loan from St Patrick’s Athletic after he recently extended his deal there. He is a quick striker that gets in behind defenders and should add good competition for places.

Following the success that Paddy Madden had at Tolka Park when he joined on loan from Bohemians last year, Keely is hoping for the same outcome with Haran as the youngster impressed when he was with Monaghan United two seasons ago.

Meanwhile, Kevin Doherty has agreed a new deal with the club and will be hoping to feature more than the 16 appearances he made in 2009.
