Corcoran, Whelan, Clarke and Foley join Shels
Shelbourne boss Dermot Keely has today completed the signings of four
players ahead of the coming season. Robbie Clarke signs from Drogheda
United, while Gareth Whelan, Daniel 'Dinny' Corcoran and Eric Foley
have all signed from newly prompted Sporting Fingal.
Clarke, 25, will look to add some width to the Shels team, a left sided player, he has plenty experience in the League of Ireland and has played for a total of six different clubs including Shamrock Rovers and St Patrick’s Athletic.
Whelan is an ex-Shels schoolboy and the central defender will certainly add to the Shels defence as they go in search of promotion to the Premier Division. The 22-year-old Portmarnock man made total of 17 league and cup appearances in 2009, and was an unused substitute in the 2-1 FAI Cup final win over Sligo Rovers.
Front-man Corcoran, 20, has signed for Keely’s men on loan and the youngster is believed to be an up-and-coming talent. Corcoran has represented Ireland at numerous levels including Under-19 level where he became the first Sporting Fingal player to be capped at the club, in a friendly against Chile in 2008. Corcoran is a product of renowned nursery side, Belvedere YC.
Foley had also represented Ireland from age 15 to age 19. The 20 year- old can play in the middle of midfield or at right-back. Foley signed for Sporting Fingal from Glasgow Celtic in July 2009, he joined Celtic from Home Farm three years earlier as a 16-year-old.
It is understood Dermot Keely is in talks with several more players and more signings should be announced shortly.
