Former Shelbourne and Bohemians striker Glen Crowe has agreed to join FAI Ford Cup champions Sporting Fingal.

Crowe, capped twice by Ireland at senior level during the 2002/3 season, becomes the fifth pre-season signing for Fingal ahead of their debut campaign in the League of Ireland Premier Division.

In welcoming the 32-year-old to the club, manager Liam Buckley stated that Crowe’s addition six weeks ahead of the season kick-off is crucial to his plans.

“Glen is a proven goalscorer and I believe he’ll add quality to our group,” he said of the player who overtook Turlough O'Connor as Bohemians’ all-time record scorer in 2008.

“There are not many full internationals in the domestic game and he’s gained considerable experience at the top end of the Premier Division over the decade.

“Our success in the First Division and FAI Ford Cup last season was built around a mainly young squad and, having retained most of them for the campaign ahead, a player of Glen’s calibre will be a positive influence in developing the team further.”

Crowe says he is relishing the new challenge of linking up with one of the League’s newest clubs.

“I had ten great years at Bohemians and Shelbourne and I feel just as excited about being a Sporting Fingal player,” he said.

“I don’t see this as a step backwards in my career. The improvements made by Sporting Fingal in just two years, not just on the pitch but also off it, proved to me they are a club with a solid foundation and are on the up.”

He added: “I’d noticed that the club are working hard around North Dublin to create links with the community, including the area where I grew up in Blanchardstown in Dublin 15, which is the ideal approach for a League of Ireland club to take.”
