Ross Gaynor Re-Signs for Drogheda
Following on from the announcement of recent signings Alan Mathews has been handed a further boost as Ross Gaynor has put pen to paper on a contract for the next season.
Interest in the Ardee native was high with offers from St Pats, Dundalk and Cork City all rejected in favour of an extension at United Park.
The decision to re-sign with United came as Gaynor felt a debt of gratitude to Mathews who took him on loan from Sporting Fingal before making his move a permanent one.
Speaking to local media Gaynor said, "I spoke to two other managers, but I wasn't really thinking about going.
'Drogheda is close to home, but the main factor in choosing them was that they were the only club who came in for me last year.
"Alan Mathews gave me that chance and it was good on him, and hopefully I will pay him back.”
Gaynor is currently in England where he is training with Conference side Stevenage Borough. He turned down a move to the club due to their current position in the lower regions of the English leagues.
A move across the water in the future is something that interests the young Louth man and he will be hoping to attract the attentions of a big English club with his exploits for the Drogs during the coming season.
Pre season training for the North East club begins this Sunday as they look to what could be another precarious season with them being quoted as 150/1 outsiders by Paddy Power to taste league success.
