Construction of North Stand in Tallaght Stadium set to start in early 2022

South Dublin County Council are to press ahead with construction of the new North Stand  in Tallaght Stadium with building work likely to commence early in 2022. 

The 2,500 all-seated stand will bring the capacity of the venue, home to anchor tenants Shamrock Rovers, up to 10,500.

Having received Part 8 planning approval, the €7.7m redevelopment work (including €1.7m for works to the West Stand) is currently in a two-part tender process to appoint a contractor to carry out the construction.

The works will include construction of the new north stand to include offices and shops, along with refurbishment and alterations to the existing West stand (which will include upgraded media facilities) and adjustments to the disabled seating in the South Stand. 

The initial tender notice stated that works ‘are expected to commence Late ‘21/ Early ’22’ with a duration of 18 months. 

The north stand will have 500 more seats than the existing South Stand. The increased size will facilitate the offices and commercial units and will include covered stairs at either side of the stand behind wing walls which will improve access and provide shelter. 

The echo.ie reported this week that works are expected to commence in Spring 2022 and that the council, in response to queries from Cllr. Charlie O’Connor, noted that: 

“The phasing of the building works will be agreed between the council, its architects and the main contractor.

“We will of course be taking cognisance of the activities of Shamrock Rovers, and their games, as well as other users of the stadium facilities, ensuring minimum disruption to the club and others, during the planned construction works.

“Several meetings have been held recently with Shamrock Rovers [including] discussions in relation to the development works at the stadium.”
