Cambridge moves to Waterford

Waterford United manager Stephen Henderson has continued to finalise his squad with the addition of another player today.

Gareth Cambridge has finalised his move to Waterford United from troubled Munster rivals Cork City. The 21 year old can play on the wing or up front.

Cambridge has one Ireland U-19 international cap to his name, and has a First Division winner’s medal from his time with Cobh Ramblers. He joined St. Mary's in the Munster Senior League in January 2009 but rejoined Cork City in the July transfer window this season before signing for the Blues.

Henderson has also signed up goalkeeper Chris Konopka from Sporting Fingal.

The New Jersey native played for Kansas City Wizards in the US Major League in 2007, as well as for the US U-23 National team. He spent the 2008 season with Bohemians, finishing with an A-Championship runner up medal. He signed for Fingal on a short term contract this summer.

The highly-rated 24-year-old will be basing himself in the Waterford area for the 2010 season.

The Blues have also confirmed that midfielders Paul McCarthy and Kevin Waters have both put pen to paper for another season at the club.

McCarthy has recovered from a major groin operation that kept him out for much of last season. He returned to training several weeks ago with no apparent ill effects. Waters continues his place as the Blues’ longest serving current player. This season will be his 11th in a Blue shirt.
