Conway hopeful of keeping Fenlon at Bohs
Bohemians’ club secretary Gerry Conway insists he is hopeful Pat
Fenlon will still be the manager of the club at the start of the 2010
League of Ireland season.
Speaking to Extratime.ie this evening, Conway confirmed that Fenlon has been in talks with Dundee United in Tannadice today and admits he believes an agreement between Fenlon and Dundee United has been reached.
With personal terms between Fenlon and the Tangerines all but finalised, it seems all that could halt the deal now would be both clubs failing to agree a figure for compensation.
“I understand they (Dundee United) believe that compensation will be an issue to discuss with us, but there has been no contact what so ever.
I’ve explained to Pat and the media that any club that thinks they can treat Bohemians like a pub team and come and take our assets cheaply are mistaken. I’m not suggesting Dundee United are trying to do that, if they’re under the view that our manager can be taken cheaply then they’re wrong.”
Conway explained how at this moment in time he firmly believes Fenlon will be at the helm of the League of Ireland champions for that start of next season.
“As of now I am. Obviously things can change but we haven’t had any phone call from Dundee United today or yesterday and if I get a phone call then we’ll deal with it.
Hand on heart I do believe Pat Fenlon will be the manager next season. If I get a phone call from Dundee United either tonight or tomorrow, then I might give you a different answer. From what I’m hearing from Scotland and Ireland at the moment though, I believe my thoughts are reasonable.”
Conway also added that the club have not begun a search for Fenlon’s successor, should he decide to leave. “We are not looking into that unless it happens. I’m hopeful that it won’t."
