Fenlon front runner for Dundee job

Bohemians’ manager Pat Fenlon has emerged as one of the front runners to take charge of Dundee United. Dundee are without a manger since Craig Levein left to take over as Scotland manager last month.

It is believed both Fenlon and ex-Dundee player Billy McKinlay were interviewed in London on Monday.

Fenlons’ regime is clearly quite an impressive one, having won five league titles in seven seasons as a manager in Ireland’s Premier division.

The news won’t make pretty reading for Bohs fans, who have already lost key players Brian Murphy and Gary Deegan ahead of the coming season.

Fenlon has already won four trophies during his two years as manager of Bohs and if he is to go he may prove to be the biggest loss of all for the Gypsies, who are aiming for their third successive league title this season.

Speaking this morning Bohemians’ secretary Gerry Conway admitted the club have given Dundee permission to speak with Fenlon but insists he does not want to see the 40-year-old Dubliner leave.

“We have given them (Dundee) permission to speak to Pat, but obviously we have made it clear its subject to substantial compensation being paid to us should any agreement be reached.

I’m not sure where they (Dundee) are in relation to candidates for the job but I’ve told Pat that we don’t want him to go, we have plans in place for 2010 and he is central to them. If any agreement is reached we’ve made it very clear to Dundee that we will expect substantial compensation.”
