Colin Healy: 'We will be back to where we were'
Despite Cork City’s lukewarm campaign in the First Division, Colin Healy wants football fans across the country to know the Rebel Army will be back.
The stark words from the City boss come just days before their FAI Cup clash against high-flying St. Patrick’s Athletic at Turner’s Cross.
Healy believes that the club have all the right ingredients to return to the top table of Irish football, and he wants a strong FAI Cup campaign to go alongside their recent run of form.
The Rebel Army will be going into this home fixture seven games undefeated and nine points from a play-off spot in the First Division.
“A cup run would be great for the club. But, Cork City are going to go from strength to strength. It is going that way at the moment,” Healy said.
“It has been a difficult start, but we knew things were going to be difficult.
“With the staff, players, and the people in the club, we are going in the right direction It’ll take a while but I have no doubt that we are going that way.
“Hopefully now in the next couple of years, we will be back to where we were.”
City will be going into the game with a good record against St Pats in the FAI Cup, as they beat the Saints in the 2015 and 2016 editions of the competition.
Despite this good omen for Friday night, Healy is taking nothing for granted: “In a cup game, anything can happen in it. I just hope everything goes our way
“We’re two different teams at the moment. We’re a younger team. It’s going to be a good game. We’re in a good run of form and they’re coming in after a defeat to Finn Harps.”
