Buckley targets home advantage in playoff

With an FAI Cup final on the horizon, Sporting Fingal manager Liam Buckley is also preparing for a First Division play-off clash against Shelbourne on Tuesday night. Home advantage in that one off game however is still up for grabs.

“We know that this will not be our last game of the campaign as we’re assured of a play-off against Shelbourne next Tuesday and the FAI Ford Cup final on November 22.

“However, that doesn’t detract from the importance of the fixture. Aside from wanting to finish the regulation campaign with a victory, the three points could be crucial in deciding which team has home advantage in Tuesday’s play-off.”

Sporting lie one point adrift of Shelbourne but have a superior goal difference which means Buckley will be relying on some help from Kildare County.

“Home advantage will depend on whether Shels drop points in their game against Kildare County and we win. All we can do is concentrate on doing our job against Athlone and see where that takes us.”
