UCD -v- Waterford United

Credit:

UCD will lift the First Division on Saturday night as they host Waterford United in The UCD Bowl in the final game of the First Division season. (Kick off 7.45)

Both teams go into the game with little to play for. UCD clinched the title last Friday night with a win over Athlone Town and a little help from Longford town as they beat Shelbourne to hand the title to the Students.

Any chance Waterford had of taking a play-off spot died last Tuesday night as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Shelbourne at the RSC. However there is some good news for The Blues as they announced that seven players have extended their current contracts, and agreed terms for another season, taking them up to the end of 2010. Those players are Kevin Burns, Seamus Long, Alan Carey, John Kearney, Willie John Kiely, Vinny Sullivan and Kevin Murray.

The sides have met on three previous occasions this season. They played out a scoreless draw in their first encounter and then met again in the semi-final of the EA Sports Cup, were Waterford ran out 3-1 winners to reach the final. In their last meeting back in August UCD grabbed a vital 1-0 at the RSC thanks to a goal from Evan McMillan.

With both teams knowing their current position in the table will not change, the result matters little. However, UCD will be lifting the trophy on the night and they will certainly want to finish off a very good season on a high. Extratime.ie prediction, UCD to finish the season in style with a 3-0 win.
