Dundalk confirm return of Vinny Perth as Head Coach

FAI Cup holders Dundalk have confirmed the return of Vinny Perth as the club’s new Head Coach.

Perth returns to the Oriel Park outfit having parted ways with the club last August after their Champions League qualifier defeat versus NK Celje.

During his first stint at the club, Perth led the Lilywhites to a league title, an EA Sports Cup, a Unite the Union Champions Cup and the President’s Cup in 2019.

He takes charge of the club again with them languishing in eighth position in the Premier Division table ahead of Friday’s crunch league tie against Longford Town.

“Dundalk FC can confirm that Vinny Perth has returned to Oriel Park as head coach,” a Dundalk FC statement read this evening.

The club added: “Perth will report to Jim Magilton, the sporting director. We are confident that this will be an effective combination to return the Lilywhites to winning ways.

“We would also like to thank all of our staff, supporters, and fans for their patience and support during this difficult time.

“We are all looking forward to enjoying football and hoisting some new trophies in the near future.”

It has also emerged that Dave Rogers was in contention for the hot-seat at Oriel, with the former Shelbourne and Dundalk player confirming that he was close to sealing his return to the club.

“All I would like to say is that it would have been an honour to manage Dundalk FC,” Rogers said on Twitter this evening.

“It was close, though now it’s the time to back the players, staff and the new head coach.”

But for now, it is Perth who is in charge at the club, and he will take charge for the first time in his second tenure against his old club Longford Town.
