WNL Round-Up: Wexford Youths end Peamount Utd’s winning streak while Shelbourne, Galway and Treaty United all win

Peamount United failed to extend their 15 game Women’s National League winning streak when Wexford Youths battled to a 2-2 draw at PRL Park on Saturday afternoon.

United raced into a two goal lead in the first half after a goal of the season contender from Megan Smyth-Lynch in the fourth minute was followed by a strike from Áine O’Gorman on the stroke of half-time.

Youths left it late but goals from Nicola Sinnott, in the 76th minute, and Kylie Murphy, in the 86th minute were enough to give the away side a point and keep them in touch with the top of the table.

Earlier on Saturday, Shelbourne closed the gap at the top of the table to three points with a 5-0 win over Athlone Town at Tolka Park.

Athlone Town went in a the half-time break just a goal down with Jamie Finn making the breakthrough for the home side in the first half.

The Town held firm until the 63rd minute when Ciara Grant netted for the Reds as the home side began to take full control.

Saoirse Noonan scored ten minutes later, with Rebecca Cooke scoring a fourth goal on her first game back at Tolka Park having re-signed during the week while Abbie Larkin finished the scoring in the final minute with her first ever WNL goal.

Galway travelled to Turners Cross on Saturday to face Cork City having lost all four of their games in May.

Stephen Lally won his first game as manager of the Tribeswomen as his side ran out 2-0 winners over the Rebels with Chloe Moloney and Aoife Thompson scoring in the first half, with both assists provided by Shauna Brennan, moving them back into fifth place in the League.

Treaty United emerged victorious on Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 win over Bohemians which sees the Limerick side now move into seventh place in the League.



Jenna Slattery put the home side in the lead in the eleventh minute when she converted from the penalty spot but the Gypsies struck in the 80th minute as Abbie Brophy bear Michaela Mitchell with a stunning goal to level the sides.

Niall Connolly’s charges claimed their second win of the season in the 89th minute however, when Áine Walsh drilled the ball across the Bohs goal with Anna Shanagher scoring her first ever WNL goal to secure the victory.
