Other teams in group: Portugal, France, Germany

THE SQUAD

While Hungary will miss their talisman Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, they still have some high-profile names like Willi Orban and Peter Gulasci who will be needed to keep things quiet at the back against France, Portugal and Germany.

The squad in full:

Defenders: Gergo Lovrencsics (Ferencvaros), Endre Botka (Ferencvaros), Adam Lang (Omonia Nicosia), Akos Kecskes (Lugano), Attila Fiola (Fehervar), Willi Orban (RB Leipzig), Attila Szalai (Fenerbahce), Bendeguz Bolla (Fehervar)

Midfielders: Loic Nego (Fehervar), Adam Nagy (Bristol City), Laszlo Kleinheisler (Osijek), David Siger (Ferencvaros), Daniel Gazdag (Philadelphia Union), Andras Schafer (Dunajska Streda) Tamas Cseri (Mezokovesd), Filip Holender (Partizan Belgrade)

HOW THEY GOT HERE

Despite only finishing fourth in a qualifying group that included Croatia, Wales, Slovakia and Azerbaijan, Hungary overcame Bulgaria and Iceland respectively to qualify for Euro 2020. They picked up wins against Wales, Croatia, and Azerbaijan on two occasions during qualifying.

KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR

Peter Gulasci – Gulasci picked up the most clean sheets in the Bundesliga this season with 15. With attacking teams like France, Germany and Portugal to face at the Euros, Hungary may be extremely reliant on their shot-stopper if they’re to pick up any points from their group games.

Willi Orban – Like Gulasci, Orban has also played a massive part in RB Leipzig’s success at the back this season. The former German youth international, who played with Marc-André ter Stegen with the Under-21 Germany side, started 29 out of 34 Bundesliga games for the German outfit, scoring four times and assisting once as his side finished second.

WHERE THEY ARE PLAYING AND STAYING

THREE INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE TEAM

Hungary’s goalkeeping duo of Adam Bogdan and Peter Gulasci have both had spells playing with Liverpool in England.

RB Leipzig conceded just 32 goals in last season’s Bundesliga, fewer than any other team. Willi Orban and Peter Gulasci were both key fixtures for Leipzig and are likely to be busy at Euro 2020 where they will defend against the likes of Ronaldo, Mbappe and Havertz.

Hungary will compete in the fourth European Championship of their country’s history this summer.

THEIR RECENT FORM

Hungary’s only defeat in their last ten games was a UEFA Nations League defeat to Russia last September. During that time Hungary also picked up six wins and three draws.

First game: Hungary v Portugal (15 June, ko 5pm).
