Henderson commits 2010 season to Blues
Waterford United manager Stephen Henderson has agreed to remain with the south-east club for another season. The former Cobh Ramblers boss agreed to a one year extension to his current rolling contract with the Blues.
Henderson spent the day with the Waterford United management committee thrashing out the details to his new deal. During the week, Waterford United coach Martin Cambridge also spoke of preparation for next season already in progress.
Henderson came to Waterford at the beginning of the season and built a very strong young team within weeks. The Blues battled for promotion all season but the vast quantity of matches, totalling over 40, in league and cup competitions eventually took its toll on the squad.
Despite failing to win promotion, Waterford United won the Munster Senior Cup and made it to the final of the EA Sports Cup and the semi final of the FAI Cup, all in Henderson’s first year.
“Waterford United are delighted to announce that, following a meeting today, manager Stephen Henderson has committed to Waterford United for the 2010 season,” a club statement read.
“The club are glad to put to bed the speculation that has been rife in recent weeks, as Henderson put pen to paper to extend his rolling contract by another year.
It is brilliant news for the club, hugely important in terms of continuity and growth as the manager stays on to carry on the tremendous work done so far this year, and also significant in that he can begin to plan for next season at the earliest opportunity.”
Waterford United also appointed local man John O’Sullivan as their new chairman.
“Waterford United are also delighted to unveil John O’Sullivan as the new club chairman. John is well known for the prodigious amount of work and support he has given to the Blues in the past, and it is a hugely fitting appointment.
As part of a system of rotation among the management committee, John was unanimously voted to the chair, and he will be joined as vice chairman by Sam White.”
